Book on Consultancy Practice launched –

Consultant, a book that talks extensively about the practice of consulting as a profession, has been launched at a colorful ceremony in Accra.

It was written by Dr. Ibo Bannerman, a renowned consultant with many years of practice and experience and published by SmartLine.

Professor Justice Darteh Bah, a retired Supreme Court judge who launched, described the book as a practical guide on counseling practice in Ghana as it draws on the author’s experience in several African countries, the United Kingdom and Singapore.

Those who have already accessed the book have also described it as a good resource for professional mentors and students seeking counseling.

A noted economist, Kwame Pianim, who reviewed the book, called it a must-have for every smart advisor who wants to excel in his profession.

“The book talks about counseling as a whole, its implications, the pleasure in practicing it among others. It contains useful appendices of documents that any consultant needs. It is a must-read book. I wish I had it 50 years ago when I started practicing my career,” said Mr. Pianim in his review remarks.

“I recommend this book to anyone who has a joint venture business with another person, anyone who has a business transaction with another person, students and all stakeholders. While reviewing this book, I have come across a lot. Learned something. I am already looking forward to a sequel,” he said.

The book comes as a tool to ease the tasks of consultants. It contains details on how to conduct negotiations and report writing. It also contains a lot of useful documentation that every consultant needs to function.

“In this book, Abo showed us how to be a good consultant domestically and globally and we applaud him for doing so. One of the things he touched on in the book was the consultation in Ghana’s GDP How to connect. He took the example from India and said that if the government is able to employ our consultants, they can also go to South Africa, Europe, earn money and bring the money home.

“The book gives you templates and examples of how to negotiate. If you’re going to work for the African Union or the European Union, or even for the World Bank, it gives you templates, How to plan your workload, how to negotiate in your field, how to sign your contract and how it deals with planning and consulting of projects and how they merge among others,” Mr. Pianim further commented.

According to Dr. Bannerman, the idea of ​​putting your thoughts into a book is to teach and inspire young mentors. He was grateful to his family, friends and past colleagues for the support he needed throughout the process, which eventually led to ‘The Consultant’.

Forward to ‘The Consultant’ is written by Chinari Hesse. The first copy of the book was purchased by Dr. Alhasan Adani, former Managing Director of Stanbic Bank, at a cost of GH¢10,000.

Joseph Abo Bannerman is the co-founder and managing partner of Plan Consult, a firm of development planners and management consultants based in Accra, Ghana. He holds a Master of Science degree in Regional Planning from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, a Postgraduate Diploma in Regional Development Planning from the Settlement Study Centre, Rehovot, Israel, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Ghana. In 2007, the University of Education, Winneba, Ghana conferred on him the degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa).

Abo Bannerman’s consulting practice has taken him to many countries in Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States, Europe and Asia.

He is a Fellow of the International Center for Research and Training in Major Projects Management, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, a Fellow and former President of the Ghana Institute of Planners and a former President of the Ghana Association of Consultants. He is currently a board member of the Brussels-based International Consulting Alliance (ICA).
