BREAKING: Ruling APC Postpones Presidential Primaries To June 6 And 7

The ruling All Progressives Congress has set new dates for its presidential primary election

According to a source, the exercise will now take place on June 6 and 7, 2022.

The APC had earlier scheduled Sunday, 29-Monday, May 30, 2022, for the first event.

However, less than 48 hours from the previously set date, the National Action Committee (NWC), led by Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has yet to set up convention planning committees nor conduct screenings for all those presidential candidates. who have purchased and returned their Interest and Enrollment Forms. ,

The latest development comes hours after the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) succumbed to pressure from political parties by extending the deadline for holding primary elections by six days.

INEC’s national election commissioner of information and voter education, Mr Festus Okoye, had said that the commission took the decision after meeting with 18 registered political parties under the aegis of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Abuja on Friday.

The IPAC had earlier sought an extension of two months from the June 3 deadline, which was rejected by the commission.

Okoye said the extension gives the parties time to compile their list of nominated candidates and personal details before uploading them on the INEC portal.

Saharareporters reported on Thursday that the APC Presidential Primary may not take place in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, after President Muhammadu Buhari leaves the country to attend the African Union’s extraordinary session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government.

“Aspirants are saying that Buhari’s departure was planned, given that no known screening is taking place as of now, and will lead to more laxity.

“They are confused, they don’t even know when they will be shown nor the primary mode, the national president of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, held a meeting with President Buhari yesterday, but we don’t know the result yet. Also not sure if maybe the primary will go as per schedule, there will be no screening for three days for the exercise,” a source had said.
