China reports 89 COVID cases as outbreaks grow
China reported 89 new COVID-19 cases for November 7, compared to 74 a day earlier, its health authority said on Monday.
According to a statement from the National Health Commission, 65 of the new infections were locally transmitted cases, compared to 50 a day earlier.
More than half of the new local cases were found in Liaoning and Henan provinces.
China reported 46 new asymptomatic patients, which it classifies separately from confirmed cases, compared with 35 a day earlier.
No new deaths were reported, leaving the death toll unchanged at 4,636.
Infections have risen sharply in recent days, with officials reporting 36 new cases on November 5 and 28 the day before. A total of 97,823 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Mainland China as of November 7.
Under Beijing’s zero-tolerance policy to curb tourism and leisure businesses, 19 province-level regions have reported more than 800 locally transmitted infections with confirmed symptoms since mid-October.
