The
government officials noted that one of the strongest areas of interaction
within the CSTO is military-economic cooperation: of the approximately 60
documents adopted within the organisation as interstate treaties (agreements,
protocols), around 30 percent regulate the development of military and economic
cooperation.

“Today,
we have a sufficient and solid regulatory legal framework to develop practical
interaction between domestic defence enterprises and defence enterprises in the
member states of the organisation,” said Denis Manturov.

According
to Imangali Tasmagambetov, the geopolitical situation and the ever increasing
tensions in today’s world are indicative of the importance of uniting the
existing capabilities of the defence enterprises in the CSTO member states. “It
is necessary to implement practical measures to form multilateral cooperation
between defence enterprises in the CSTO member states for the joint development
and production of weapons and military equipment, as well as the creation of
service centres for maintenance and repair,” he said.

During
the meeting, the CSTO Secretary General spoke about the current work on
preparations for the 21st ICMEC meeting, which is scheduled for the
end of April this year in Dushanbe,
Tajikistan.
