Egypt's FM flies to Addis Ababa for 42nd Ordinary Session of AU Executive Council – Foreign Affairs – Egypt

Egypt’s top diplomat flew from Dubai to Addis Ababa, where he attended the World Government Summit (WGS) 2023, which was also attended by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and a host of leaders, experts, decision-makers and private sector leaders from 13 ran away. Till 15 February.

The 42nd Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council is held at the level of AU Foreign Ministers and is preceded by the 36th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly which will be held on 18-19 February at the level of Heads of State and Government.

The AU summit will be held this year under the theme ‘The Year of FCFTA: Acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area Implementation’.

During his visit, Shoukry is set to meet with several African foreign ministers to discuss aspects of cooperation and means of strengthening bilateral ties, as well as exchange views on issues of common interest to the continent. Foreign Affairs said in a statement today.

Shoukry is also scheduled to meet officials from outside Africa on the sidelines of the AU summit.

The AU Executive Council will discuss a number of key themes and priority issues in Africa, in particular the annual report on the activities of the Union and its organs and the expediting of the implementation of the AfCFTA.

The session will also discuss the social and humanitarian situation on the continent and the reports compiled by the Ministerial Committees affiliated to the AU’s Executive Council.

The AU states on its website that the Executive Council session will consider the draft agenda, draft decisions and declarations with appropriate recommendations for consideration during the upcoming summit.

The session will also elect two judges of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights and six members of the African Union Advisory Board against Corruption, according to the AU.

In addition, three judges will be nominated in session to the AU Administrative Tribunal and one member will be appointed to the AU Board of External Auditors.
