Mia Mottley to deliver keynote address at major reparations conference in US

NEW YORK (CMC) – Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley is scheduled to deliver a keynote address during a global conference on reparations next month in Baltimore, Maryland.

According to Don Rojas, Vincentian-born director of communications and international relations for the Institute of the Black World 21st Century (IBW), the organization has received confirmation that Motley will attend the State of the Black World Conference V beginning April 19. -23, will deliver the keynote address as a special guest.

Rojas, the former press secretary to slain Grenada Prime Minister Maurice Bishop, said Motley would address the conference along with Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, organized around the theme “the rise, empowerment reform and healing of global Africans”. Has gone.

The IBW said Mottley “has emerged as a leading figure in the Caribbean advocating for stronger ties with the African Union and a global emphasis on judicial justice while playing a more active role with Africa.”

IBW noted that Mottley has called for a global summit on reparations in collaboration with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Reparations Commission, the African Union, the National African American Reparations Commission and reparations commissions from different regions of the global Black diaspora.

“We are honored and pleased that Prime Minister Mia Mottley has accepted our invitation to play a leading role in the State of the Black World Conference V,” said IBW President Dr. Ron Daniels. “He has shown an eagerness to work with President Addo of Ghana and strengthen the global reform movement.

“Once Vice-President Francia Marquez from Colombia is confirmed, we will have a formidable trio of leaders who will champion the cause of corrective justice as the ‘human rights issue of the 21st century’ declared by Professor Hilary Beckles (Vice-Chancellor of the University) West Indies),” added Daniels.

He also said that Motley would be presented with the IBW Legacy Award at the Global Women’s Leadership Summit at the conference for her historic role as the first female Prime Minister of Barbados.
