Second Anniversary of the opening of Kartarpur Corridor – Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Two years ago, on the same day, the Kartarpur Corridor was inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan on the eve of the 550th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak. The magnificent newly constructed Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur complex was a gift to the Sikh community in India and around the world by the people of Pakistan and their leadership.

Over the past two years, the corridor has not only fulfilled the desire of the Sikh community across the world to have easy access to the revered site, but it also reflects the primacy that Pakistan accords to all religious minorities in the country. The corridor has opened new avenues for promoting inter-religious harmony.

The corridor was described as a “corridor of hope” by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during his visit to Kartarpur Sahib in February 2020.

After being temporarily closed due to pandemic on 16 March 2020, Kartarpur Corridor was reopened on 29 June 2020 as per COVID-19 related protocols. India, despite resuming international travel all over the world, reopened and reiterated all religious places in that country. The Sikh community has not yet opened the corridor on its part and has not allowed the pilgrims to visit Kartarpur Sahib.

On the upcoming birthday celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak from 17-26 November 2021, we look forward to hosting devotees from across India and the world.

Pakistan hopes that India will allow pilgrims to travel through the corridor to visit Kartarpur Sahib in the spirit of cooperation.
