Uganda Joins African Continent to Celebrate Africa Public Service Day 2022 –

Uganda today joins the rest of the continent to celebrate the annual African Public Service Day to recognize and celebrate the contribution of public service to the socio-economic sector.

The event was held at the Kololo Ceremonial Ground under the theme; ‘Bringing closer-to-service delivery to citizens and government for socio-economic change’.

The Minister of Public Service, Wilson Muruli Mukasa, the Acting Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, was the chief guest at the colorful event, which was attended by government agencies that showcased their products and explained the services offered to the public.

Celebrated as a biennial event by African Union member states, the day recognizes that democracy and good governance are built on the foundation of an efficient civil service.

It arose from the recommendations of the Inter-African Public Administration Symposium held in 1970 in Botswana and Sierra Leone in 1971, which commended the need for the development of competent administrators and managers.

Uganda has made some progress in that regard, including empowering citizens to demand service delivery, increased transparency and accountability.

This is not limited to the decentralization of power of local governments, client charters in MDAs, etc.

The week-long activities to mark the day included a sports festival at the Makerere Sports Ground which was held between 15-17. started from^th June, and 22 . Walking to Kololo Grounds from Ko Public Service^Ra for festivals.
